The Church of the Nazarene entered Malawi in 1957 with pioneer missionaries, Rev. and Mrs Maurice Hall and Rev. and Mrs Jim Graham. In August 1960, on a beautiful hillside in Bangwe, a suburb of Limbe, the first Nazarene school in Malawi opened. It was christened Malawi Nazarene Theological College. The first Principal was Rev Maurice Hall. Since then several missionaries and nationals have directed the college. The early graduates served the church in five countries throughout South-Central Africa. Most, however, served in three districts in Malawi. In 1986, a four-year Diploma in Ministry and a three-year Christian worker’s certificate were offered. In 1989, under the leadership of Rev. Gideon Tredoux, the college was transferred to its present campus in Area 25C in Lilongwe. In 1992, a new day dawned for Malawi Nazarene Theological College when it merged with the other Nazarene schools of the Central Field- Zambia and Zimbabwe. Thus, Malawi Theological College was named Nazarene Theological College of Central Africa. It is accredited by the International Board of Education of the Church of the Nazarene as an Advanced Level School commissioned to provide training for the denomination.
